How to Manage Work Life Balance

You have been working non stop, branding, building, networking, you name it. Things have been going so great for you. You start to feel a rush and you continue to stay positive. You work 24/7 building your dream job and after awhile you hit a wall. You need a break.

You decide to take a day or two off to focus on yourself. You rest, enjoy time with friends, etc. You promise yourself not to open your computer. You know that after a couple of days the energy and focus will be back and you will be ready to go. A couple of days turn into a week or more and you realize that your small break took over.

I know that this has happened to me before, it took a while to get back into the flow. It is possible, you have to focus a little more than usual. I am going to give you a few things to focus on that worked for me.

Organize and Plan

Start a list and make a plan, make sure that it is not overwhelming. Make sure that every day has tasks that can be accomplished in the amount of time you allow yourself. While you are making this list, be sure to include time to eat, relax, and sleep. Remember not to over do it this time.


Yes, you are building a brand and working hard. Don’t forget about your friends and family. Don’t dive into work where you leave out the important people in your life. If you hear from them, let them know you are in the middle of something and will call back as soon as you get a minute. You don’t want to upset those who are close to you because you are so involved with your work.


Learn to balance your life with your work. If you are working hard during the week, take a day off on the weekend, say yes to dinner plans, get a massage. Do what you need to do for yourself to keep your work life balance. Keeping a balance will prevent you from suffering another burnout. The bonus is that the more you balance your life, the more creative you can become.


Get Active

Get active, don’t forget about your gym membership or long walks around the block. Keeping yourself moving allows for endorphins to flow. Exercising can help you stay positive which can also lead to more ideas. Not only should you get moving, but remember to eat healthy. Eating healthy will give you energy. You won’t have to worry about crashing from sugar or feeling slow because you over ate.



Once you have learned to create a balance between work and life, you will become more proactive. The advice that I have provided comes from my experience. I had to learn the hard way and I want to make sure to help you before you go through what I did. I had to push hard to get out of that slump, but I was able to pull through. I am back better than ever!
