When it comes to personal branding, how many times have you asked yourself, “how do I create a personal brand” or “how can I improve my personal brand?” Keep it real here, you know at one point it was a burning question you had. In search of the truth you turned to none other than Google. Here you’ve spent countless hours pouring over articles and blog posts about personal branding. Finally when the feeling of information overload besieges you, I bet in that moment of weakness you thought to yourself, I should just pay someone to do it all.

Personal branding is definitely not some elusive enigma, it’s actually pretty straight forward and for those who are daring enough to get creative they can actually garner the attention of others. But what about those who aren’t quirky and creative? Are they totally out of luck? Not exactly but here’s how you can successfully fail at personal branding:


You might be someone who’s a total introvert and have no desire to sharing your passions. But I encourage you to share your passions with the world because you’ll be surprised how quickly you can connect with others. Not to mention you would be doing a disservice by keeping your talents and passions to yourself.


Too often when we set out to create a personal brand we’re focusing on all the what if’s. What if no one cares about what I have to say? What if I’m bad at writing or what if I end up making a fool out of myself. No need to fret just know that when it comes to branding you will never please everyone. Think about it, Apple has haters and so does every other big brand out there. People will love you too, so show the world your strengths.  


When you’re unclear as to why you want to create a personal brand your brand can quickly spiral out of control. You need to answer the question of why you want to create a personal brand. Is it to gain more clients for your business? Or is it take your career to the next level? Whatever the reason you have to be very lucid about it.


Let’s be honest, it’s a noisy world out there and if you aren’t solving a problem then you’ll easily fall prey to being like everyone else. Here’s where you can get creative. If you’re great at something figure out how you can use it to solve a burning problem or question that others are facing.  

YOU POST EVERY OTHER MONTH (if you feel like it)

I get it you’re busy, heck we all are. But when it comes to branding whether personal or business you can’t just create content when you feel like it. If you’re looking to get the attention of others you need to be consistently putting out valuable content. It’s a commitment.


This kind of strategy is bound to fail. Make sure you plan out what kind of content you want to put out. It even helps when you create an editorial calendar for yourself as to when you’ll be posting what content. You also want to be realistic and ask yourself which social media platform(s) will you be comfortable posting on regularly.
