Do you really need mental toughness when you have the right mindset already? Short answer, yes! We hear so much about developing the right mindset that it has almost become cliche. What is a mindset? Better yet what is the right one? Honestly, you can have the right mindset and not get anywhere. Mindset has more to do with your attitude, but not what you can sustain to be successful. The problem with a mindset is you always have to set your mind. Mental toughness is an automatic thing because there is no setting up, it is already there.
What Is Mental Toughness?
Mental toughness is a level above mindset. Mental toughness is resilience beyond your thoughts. It is the ability to get out of your thinking mind because you know it has to be done. Whatever IT is. The right mindset can get your day going mental toughness will keep it that way.
Some may disagree, but I present this point. Most of us had mental toughness long before we had the right mindset. Mental toughness is the mentality that says no matter what I will not break, it has to be done.
“Mental toughness is when you can find fuel in an empty tank!”-Unknown That thing in you that makes you go when you think you can’t go anymore, yep that is mental toughness. That thing that makes you smile when you want to cry inside but you hold it together and get stuff done anyway, mental toughness!
Why You Need It?
Let’s face it, we all have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. Some of us lose the battle with the sheets and don’t get out of bed at all. In order to be the best version of you, you must have mental toughness. That is non-negotiable. Life will throw people, places, and things at you that will rock your mindset off its “positive” and “I can do it” pedestal. Mental toughness makes you push through that. That is the real difference between those who make it and those who give up. Mental toughness says “I don’t care, I’m pushing through this” because something in front of me is more important than how I feel.
How To Get It?
- It is something that has to be developed, like any muscle.
- You have to start off with the right mindset, yes I said the right mindset.
- Believe you will make it no matter what!
- Follow up with I have to make it no matter what!
When I go to the gym or any workout, I go in with the right mindset. Woohoo, let’s get this workout on, but then I get tired. I start debating with myself if I really need to finish this workout. My mental toughness has to kick in, otherwise I will quit. “You aren’t done! You have a little more left! Who is going to stop you, but you?” You have to be your own butthole coach screaming in your ear saying you better not quit and you better not cry!
Yeah, You Really Need It And Probably Already Have It!
You have made it through some of the worse things in your life because you are mentally tough. That is a fact. It didn’t matter how much you wanted to give up and give in. You didn’t. You already have it! Mental toughness is not some elusive thing that only exist in elite athletes, it exist in you. Pretty soon, rather you can get through something or not will not be a question in your head. Instead, you will know you can make it. Yes, you can put in that extra ten minutes at the gym, you can work on your business after you pulled a 12 hour shift at work, and yes you can even walk with your head high even though your crown is heavy.
