How to Hashtag For Business
Hashtags often get misused. People who use #hashtags #like #this can be hard to take seriously. But don’t get fooled into thinking hashtagging can’t be used for your benefit.
They can ignite your Instagram engagement exponentially. I tested posting the same picture twice in a row, one without hashtags, and one with them just to test the payoff.
I saw double the amount of engagement on the exact same photo when I used hashtags. My account also gained followers who might not have found me, had I not been using the right hashtags. Today, I’m going to show you how you can make sure you’re using the right ones.
Use Trending Hashtags
It seems like every other day is a new made up holiday. If #NationalCupCakeday makes you want to go to your favorite bakery and snap a pic, you’re not the only one.
These “holidays” are popping up all over the place and big brands are taking notice to use them in their marketing agendas.
On days like this, people are searching the hashtags that are relevant to the day to see what everyone else is doing. Some people search through a hashtag to find something to repost. How awesome would it be if they reposted you?
When someone reposts your image, it’s like free advertising for your Instagram page. It’s the modern-equivalent of having someone walk around wearing a t-shirt with your logo on it.

Research Related Hashtags

You’ll be able to discover a LOT of relevant hashtags to your niche and expose your instaphotography skills to a whole new collection of potential customers.
Don’t Be Afraid Of A Little Healthy Hashtag Competition
A little healthy competition is good right? On Instagram, the emphasis is on little. On the same page as the relevant hashtags, you’ll also find the number of the amount of recent posts for a specific hashtag. People using a hashtag is definitely good, this means people are searching for it.
However, when that number is teetering over 3,000,000 (like hashtag #love) there’s no point in even using it. Pictures with that hashtag are being used so often that your picture is likely to be pushed down the feed, and barely get any #love.
These overused hashtags have likely been found and abused by Instagram spammers. This makes it less fun to search through anymore because they are riddled with spam which leaves you with almost no reason to use them.
